About FutureFast
I have started eight companies. The first was in 1992, before most people I knew had an email address, and the ones since have carried me through the commercial web, the crash, the rebuild, Web 2.0, crypto, additive manufacturing, robotics and now this.
In late 1994 a copy of Wired arrived with Mosaic on the cover. I read it and understood that the question of whether this would matter had already been answered, and that almost nobody around me had noticed. Learning to recognize that feeling is most of what I have done with the thirty four years since, across the run up and the crash and the rebuild and every arrival after them. It came back in late 2022. It has not left.
What is different this time is the distance between seeing something and having it, which has collapsed. I can describe a system out loud and have a working version of it running the same afternoon. I have done that several hundred times in the last two years. Not as a demonstration. That is simply how I work now, and it is the reason I am no longer content to only write about any of this.
So the reading is not the product. The filter is. Knowing which announcements matter, which are a repeat of a pattern I have already watched play out twice, and which can be safely ignored for another year at no cost to you at all. Six to eight hours of most days goes into staying current, which sounds indulgent until you try to hold a serious conversation with somebody whose information is a quarter old. No chief executive can do that. None should try.
